June 11th seems to be the day for cultural experiences. Not only can you watch the O-Bon festival in Honomu that day, but you can also go to the Kamehameha festival in Hil0 in celebration of King Kamehameha.
The festival is free (always nice). It is part of a larger celebration of King Kamehameha day. The Festival features traditional Hawaiian dance, music, chant, practices, arts, and crafts. It is from 9am to 5pm, June 11.
From our house the festival it’s a short 10 minute drive south on Mamalahoa Hwy (19) towards Hilo (and past downtown) to Coconut Island Park:
